Welcome
What is EHAC?
EHAC stands for the National Environmental Health, Science and Protection Accreditation Council. EHAC is the only non-profit organization in the United States that accredits stand-alone Environmental Health Academic Programs. EHAC accredits programs providing applied, STEM based professional degree programs. EHAC accreditation is well respected nationally and worldwide for three major reasons:
Scientific, STEM based rigor of accreditation requirements
Practice-based internship requirement for all graduates
High rate of employment and compensation upon graduation
EHAC requires a firm educational foundation in the natural sciences of biology, microbiology, chemistry, and physics. This combined with a requirement for the completion of a practical, hands-on internship results in graduates that are well prepared to immediately enter the environmental health workforce or continue their academic journeys.
Why Accredit? Because EHAC accreditation is of significant value to your students and graduates, making your Environmental Health Program highly attractive to prospective students and future graduates.
Quote from Lana Glore, R.S. and Director of a local health department in Ohio regarding an EHAC accredited program: "As one of the few remaining accredited Environmental Health programs in Ohio we value what you are doing for the Registered Sanitarian profession."

Now more than ever it is critical that the USPHS Commission Corps be able to recruit and retain highly qualified Environmental Health practitioners. For many years, the USPHS has recognized that students graduating from EH programs accredited under the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC) are uniquely prepare to become leaders in the field of Environmental Health and the USPHS Commissioned Corps. Students from EHAC accredited Environmental Health programs are highly sought after for our Commission Officer Student Extern Training Program (COSTEP) as well as for commissioning in the USPHS after graduating.”
